He turned this way and that and saw that there was no man, so he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. He went out the next day and behold! two Hebrew men were fighting. He said to the wicked one, "Why would you strike your fellow?" He replied, "Who appointed you as a dignitary, a ruler, and a judge over us? Do you propose to murder me, as you murdered the Egyptian?" Moses was frightened and he thought, "Indeed, the matter is known!" Pharaoh heard about this matter and sought to kill Moses; so Moses fled from before Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian. He sat by a well. The minister of Midian had seven daughters; they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father's sheep. The shepherds came and drove them away. Moses got up and saved them and watered their sheep. They came to Reuel their father. He said, "How could you come so quickly today?" They replied, "An Egyptian man saved us from the shepherds, and he even drew water for us and watered the sheep." He said to his daughters, "Then where is he? Why did you leave the man? Summon him and let him eat bread!" Moses desired to dwell with the man; and he gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses. She gave birth to a son and he named him Gershom, for he said, "I have been a stranger in a foreign land." It was there, in the land of Midian, that Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and touched it to his feet; and she said, "You are being a bloodshed!to Me" And Hashem encountered him, and sought to kill him, but He released him. Then she said, "A bridegroom's bloodshed was because of circumcision."
